Happ ready to get back in race with Phils
J.A. Happ’s search for his 11th victory has been on hold for a while. Until now.
Happ, who hasn’t pitched since Sept. 2 because of a strained intercostal muscle in the rib cage, is scheduled to start the first game of a three-game series against the Braves at Turner Field.
“He’s alright,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. “I think he’s fine.”
Happ threw a 55-pitch bullpen session Monday and then added a shorter bullpen session on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old left-hander is a leading contender for the National League Rookie of the Year Award. Happ leads all NL rookie pitchers with 104 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA, and he is tied for first with 10 wins.
