Myers denies involvement in altercation
Brett Myers strongly denied his involvement in any physical or verbal altercations early Saturday morning at an Irish pub in Jacksonville, Fla., where he lives.
Police confirmed that Myers did not injure his left eye at Shannon’s Irish Pub, and that he had no involvement in a physical disturbance that damaged some band equipment. Sgt. Chuck Mulligan, a spokesman for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, also said police have no knowledge that Myers was involved in any verbal confrontations with any patrons.
“I was in no way involved with pushing or shoving or yelling at anybody,” Myers told MLB.com. “People are saying it was me, and it really wasn’t. I’m tired of people saying things about me that aren’t true.”
This started when the Phillies scratched Myers from his rehab start Saturday night with Class A Clearwater because he injured his left eye. Myers originally told the Phillies he injured his eye while playing catch with his 4-year-old son, Kolt. Myers said his wife Kim urged him to tell the Phillies the truth: He said while trying to exit the back seat of his wife’s Cadillac Escalade after returning from the restaurant, he tripped and smashed his face on the door’s armrest.
